The Alameda Community Budget is a participatory budgeting project that places community values at the center of the conversation around our City’s budgeting process. Our work is informed by community organizers all around the U.S. and here in California and the Bay Area who share our view that public budgets are moral documents not just policy documents. We believe the Alameda City budget should reflect the community’s priorities and values.

In the fall of 2022, we created a short, anonymous, online survey to hear from you about your values and ask how you would like to see public money spent. In April of 2023, we published the Alameda Community Budget Report with information on the survey design, outreach, results, and next steps.

We hope that the Alameda Community Budget becomes a regular community practice here in Alameda as a way to start a conversation about community priorities and City spending.
